As you placed this into the No Mercy folder that means you want a brutally honest Critique from #thephotographyunion

I like critiquing photos that clearly took a commitment to make. I feel that as audience I owe the photographer the most of my thoughts about the image. It's clear from your comments, this is not an easy place to get to. The photo is your trophy of the trip. It has so much going for it but misses the mark in several ways. The theme of man's fleeting presence in the natural landscape is seen here. Old cabin rotting away, set in a world which systematically renews itself, soon on the bones of this dying building. Coming upon this scene draws anyone to capture it. But it's not a very emotional or personal statement. Everything is at a distance. The cabin is rather static and almost centered. The light (which you couldn't control) is high and hard and with the exception of the left face of the cabin, shadowless. I feel the presence of the cabin. But I don't see it. This is a portrait of an object of man, probably loved and enjoyed, slowly dying. It feels like the distance, the excessive balance and equal amounts of background and subject takes away from that. I find I want to see much more of the cabin, close and personal with slivers of the soon to be victorious world of nature edging in rather than standing in balance. It's somewhat like seeing an old man standing in the distance instead of moving in to see the lines in his face or hands. I am drawn to what you shot. I just want much more than you have delivered..
